Enterprise Inspiration

Claudia Vince, about 6 years ago

I thought I had no options and that self-employment was beyond me. I can now see what I have to work on, but I think I can do it.

When faced with the barriers of some employers' attitudes, starting a business and being their own boss can seem like the right path for many ex-offenders. Enterprise Inspiration provides real advice and support for these prisoners and ex-offenders who want to start their own business. They offer tailored advice and training, providing valuable insight into the reality of starting and sustaining a business. Working both in prisons and with probation in the community, Enterprise Inspiration has already helped hundreds of ex-offenders make their dreams a reality.

There's a lot more to it than I first thought! Which is good as I now know the road to go down.

Enterprise Inspiration is pragmatic in its approach, with a focus on the practicalities and processes involved in starting and running a business – everything from business planning and marketing to financial structures and tax advice. All training is tailored to the individual, meaning the team at Enterprise Inspiration are able to work closely with each person to produce custom-made business plans. Their tailored approach is likely to improve the prospects of the business, as potential obstacles can be accounted for, putting appropriate planning in place. This type of support is invaluable to the ex-offenders, as they are able to realise their potential as successful businesspeople, and work closely with experts to maximise the scope of their business.

As the organisation was founded and is run by people who have real experience of starting and growing businesses, everything they do is based on genuine knowledge and personal experiences. As a result of this, the training they offer is focused on the practicalities and challenges of business management, ensuring the reality of running a business is understood by all. They also provide a full financial service of bookkeeping, accountancy, access to business insurance and business coaching, which helps to prevent individuals from feeling daunted or overwhelmed by the process.

The one to one with me took out the fear of finance, numbers and stuff. I know I have to do it but have options now. Ex offender, West London.

Working with Enterprise Inspiration not only helps ex-offenders to build a business, it also helps them to build up their self-esteem and confidence. Having an experienced business-person believe in their ideas and abilities is likely to help them feel more motivated and empowered. When someone with a criminal record is faced with the difficulties of securing work, it is easy to feel disheartened and isolated. Through the support and guidance offered by Enterprise Inspiration, ex-offenders are able to foster hope and enthusiasm for their future, encouraged by the knowledge that they can become valued business owners in the community.
